About
Ha Long Bay is a world-renowned natural wonder located in Quang Ninh Province, northeastern Vietnam. Famous for its spectacular seascape of limestone karsts, emerald waters, misty clouds, and hidden caves, the bay is considered one of the most magnificent scenic areas in Southeast Asia.
Ha Long Bay lies at the heart of a larger maritime zone that includes Bai Tu Long Bay to the northeast and the Cat Ba Archipelago to the southwest. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 and later named one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2012, Ha Long Bay is not only a symbol of Vietnam’s natural beauty but also a place deeply rooted in legend and history.
The name “Ha Long” literally means “Descending Dragon,” inspired by an ancient legend in which dragons descended from the heavens to protect Vietnam from invaders, creating thousands of limestone islands as a natural fortress. Today, those “dragon pearls” remain as the iconic karst formations rising from the sea.

- September – October Typhoon season; travel plans may be affected by weather conditions.
- November – February Cooler and occasionally misty, creating a quieter and more atmospheric experience, though swimming may be limited.
