A Vietnam Visa on Arrival (also known as a landing visa) is an alternative way to obtain a visa for Vietnam. Instead of applying at an embassy, your visa is issued upon arrival at a Vietnamese international airport.
It is one of the fastest and most cost-effective options for travelers. You only need a visa approval letter issued by Vietnam Immigration, which allows you to board your flight and receive your visa when you land in Vietnam.
Visa on Arrival is available at the following international airports:
- Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi)
- Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City)
- Da Nang International Airport (Da Nang)
- Cam Ranh International Airport (Nha Trang)
- Phu Quoc International Airport (Phu Quoc)
- Cat Bi International Airport (Hai Phong)
Yes. The Vietnam Visa on Arrival is fully legal and officially regulated under Vietnamese immigration law.
This visa type is recognized and endorsed by the Vietnamese Government and published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is also widely accepted by airlines and commonly used in the international tourism industry.
Vietnam Visa on Arrival is stipulated in National Ordinance No. 24/2000/PL-UBTVQH10 (April 28, 2000), which explains why licensed travel agencies are authorized to assist travelers in obtaining visa approval letters.
In short, travelers can rest assured that a Vietnam Visa on Arrival is a safe, legal, and reliable option.
A Vietnam Visa Approval Letter is an official document issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department (Ministry of Public Security).
It serves as formal authorization allowing you to:
- Board your flight to Vietnam
- Have your visa stamped into your passport upon arrival at a Vietnamese international airport
With a valid visa approval letter, you can obtain your Vietnam visa directly at the airport.
(*) Note: Once issued, the visa approval letter cannot be amended. If you need to change any personal details or travel information, you must apply for a new approval letter.
Under normal processing, your visa approval letter will be sent to your email within 1–2 working days after you complete the application and payment (excluding weekends and public holidays).
For urgent cases, express processing is available within 2, 4, or 8 hours, including weekends and holidays.
If you need urgent assistance, please contact us at info@atevietnam.com.
(*) Note: Visa counters at Vietnamese international airports operate 24/7, so as long as you have your approval letter, you can collect your visa upon arrival at any time, including weekends.
Once your application is approved, a scanned copy of the visa approval letter will be sent to your email. Please make sure you provide a valid and correct email address during the application process.
After receiving the approval letter, you must print a hard copy (black and white is acceptable) and bring it with you. Airlines will not allow boarding without a printed visa approval letter.
No. The visa approval letter is valid for air travel only and can only be used to obtain a visa upon arrival at Vietnamese international airports. It is not applicable for land or sea entry.
Upon arrival at the airport, proceed to the Visa on Arrival (Landing Visa) counter. This is where your visa will be stamped into your passport before you go through passport control.
Please prepare the following documents:
- Your original passport
- Visa approval letter
- Completed Vietnam visa application form
- Two passport-sized photos (4 × 6 cm)
- Cash for stamping fee: USD 25 for 1-month single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry
Submit all documents at the Visa on Arrival counter. Immigration officers will review your documents and stamp the visa into your passport.
Before leaving the counter, please check all visa details carefully to ensure the information is correct.

REQUIREMENTS FOR VISA ON ARRIVAL
To enter Vietnam, you must have a valid passport and a visa (or a visa approval letter for visa on arrival).
Your passport must:
- Be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned stay
- Have at least one blank page for the visa stamp
No. The visa approval letter is required to board your flight and to obtain your visa upon arrival in Vietnam.
Airlines will not allow you to board without this letter. For this reason, we strongly recommend applying well in advance to avoid any flight delays or changes.
You need two passport-sized photos (4 × 6 cm). Photos are required only upon arrival at Vietnamese airports, so please remember to bring them with you.
(*) Note: If you don’t have photos prepared in advance, photo services are available at Vietnamese airports for approximately USD 5 or less per photo.
A passport scan is not required for the standard online visa application.
However, in some cases, the Immigration Office may request a scan to verify your information. If this happens, we will notify you immediately by email with further instructions.
Not necessarily. The arrival date you provide can be the earliest date you plan to enter Vietnam, and you may arrive later than that date.
However, please note that you must exit Vietnam before the expiry date stated on your visa approval letter.
No. Once issued, the visa approval letter cannot be amended.
If you need to arrive earlier than the date stated on your approval letter, you must apply for a new visa approval letter with the updated arrival date.
You can apply for a visa approval letter at any time. While standard processing usually takes 1–2 working days, we strongly recommend applying 1–2 weeks before your arrival date to avoid unexpected issues such as payment delays, itinerary changes, or administrative problems.
The choice depends on your travel plans:
- Single-entry visa:
Allows you to enter Vietnam once during the visa’s validity period. Once you exit Vietnam, the visa becomes invalid. If you wish to return, you will need to apply for a new visa.
- Multiple-entry visa:
Allows you to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times as long as the visa remains valid. The visa must be collected at a Vietnamese international airport on your first entry. After that, you can enter or exit Vietnam through any international airport during the validity period.
Most foreign nationals require a valid visa to enter Vietnam. However, citizens of certain countries are eligible for visa-free entry for a limited period.
Visa-free entry by nationality:
- Up to 15 days: Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Belarus, Russia (Federation), South Korea, Japan
- Up to 14 days: Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar
- Up to 21 days: Philippines
- Up to 30 days: Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan (Republic)
- Up to 90 days: Chile (Republic)
Important notes:
- If you wish to stay longer than the visa-free period, you must apply for a Vietnam visa.
- British National (Overseas) – BNO passport holders are not eligible for visa exemption and must obtain a visa before travel.
- For travelers entering Vietnam under unilateral visa exemption, the next visa-free entry must be at least 30 days after the previous exit. Otherwise, a valid visa is required.
FEES AND PAYMENT
